What can parents do about mobile phone use?

You're standing in the kitchen.

Dinner is ready.

You call out "Dinner is ready!"

You hear....silence.

They are all on devices and none of them are coming.

You are tired and frustrated and don't want the effort and battle of having yet another discussion about phones, games, instagram, snap, youtube...

You just want to be able to have a family dinner without the fight to get them to the table.

You don't want to worry anymore about what they might be doing on their device with the bedroom door closed.

You want them outside and seeing friends and not on a screen.

You're wondering if you need to start drawing up contracts...

Turn off the wifi...

or flee to some remote country town with no electricity to protect your kids from addiction.

You are not alone in your concerns.

Before every live workshop I run I survey parents about their concerns and frustrations.

Teen mobile phone use comes up on the list every time.

To help you out I have a short video on my blog here about what parents can do to change teen mobile phone use.

It's less than 5 mins long and in it I share what research tells us about...

  1. The ways teens learn from parents.
  2. How to motivate teens to change.
  3. The most common trap parents fall into around devices and why this approach doesn't work.
