My teen has problems with anxiety but won't go to therapy. What do I do?
This week an important question that's often not dealt with came up in the Calm Connection Parent group coaching call.
The question was...
"My teen has problems with anxiety and I think they need therapy but she won't go.
What can I do to get her to agree to go?"
As a community we have a lot of education about the benefits of therapy for mental health...
But as parents there is very little help until you get them through the door of a professional.
What are parents to do if they are worried about their teen's anxiety, depression, school refusal, ADHD, Autism or behaviour...
...but they can't get them to see a professional?
To help I've made two short videos for you about teens and therapy. You can watch the first one here right now. (Pt 2 will be coming soon)
In it I cover what evidence based therapy for anxiety, depression and behaviour problems involves and how you can support your teen as a parent.
It's only a few mins long.
Look out for part 2 which will cover exactly what you need to consider before you talk to your teen about therapy and what you can do to change their attitude toward getting help.
Parent education and knowing how to stay calm and respond to emotions in helpful ways is an important part of therapy for teens. You can get this education and support inside the Calm Connection Program. More info is here www.kirstinbarchia.com.au/calmconnection
